Create and upload your own Phraser loops!
Load the audio
Creating your own Phraser loops is easy. To start with load an audio file into Phraser, either some audio you've recorded or some sound file that you have. Once the file has loaded the entire clip will be highlighted in pink.
Define the loop start and end points
Move the left and right boundaries of the pink region to select only the section that you want to loop. Getting the loop just right can be a little tricky at first but gets easy with practice.
Save your work
Once you are satisfied with your loop save it to your computer by clicking the Save button. This will save only the looped portion as a separate file. The status line at the bottom of the Phraser screen will give you an estimate of how large the file will be. If you have enough space on your hard drive then save the clip uncompressed (leave the compress checkbox unchecked). This will retain the maximum quality. If you are tight on space you may wish to compress the file. If you plan to share your loop on JamSpace then compression is a good idea since it will make for much shorter downloads.
Upload to JamSpace
If you'd like to share your Phraser loop with the world then upload it to JamSpace (please, no copyrighted material unless you are the copyright holder!). Uploading Phraser loops is just like uploading regular audio files. Once you are logged in go to Create > File and an upload page will appear. Browse to find your file, add a title and brief description and click the 'Phraser loop' checkbox, then click save. Once your clip is uploaded it should appear in the list of Phraser loops. At any time you can check or uncheck the Phraser loop checkbox to add or remove your audio uploads from the Phraser list. To do that just go to the edit screen for your audio file, check/uncheck the Phraser checkbox and click Save.
- Click Run when security dialogs show up.
- Click Load to browse and open an MP3, WAV or SPX file from your local computer
- Progress bar indicates status of loading, compressed audio files will be decompressed.
File contents are analyzed to optimize waveform display generation.
Once file is loaded and processed you should see a waveform highlighted with a pinkish background. - Sliders underneath waveform control scaling (left slider) and scrolling (right slider)
- Drop down control at the bottom lets you choose which audio output to send to.
- The pink box is the selected region, you can drag the left and right boundaries to shorten/length the selection and you may drag the entire selection range. Click outside the pink box somewhere on the white background to clear the selection. When no pink selection box is displayed you can drag over a section of the waveform to define a new selection region.
- The Export button will bring up a file save dialog to let you save the selected (highlighted in pink) region of the file as a WAV file. Check the 'Compress files' checkbox to save audio as a compress SPX file. This will make the file a lot smaller, it will not sound as good as the original, but still pretty good.
